ICJ Confirms Receipt Of DRC's Case Against Rwanda

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has officially announced that the Democratic Republic of Congo has instituted legal proceedings against Rwanda over alleged abuses committed in eastern DRC between 1996 and the present day.
According to the ICJ, the DRC's application alleges genocide-related acts and serious human rights violations affecting several Congolese communities.
The case invokes multiple international treaties, including the Genocide Convention, the Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention Against Torture.
The case has been filed before the United Nations' highest judicial body, where the DRC is seeking to establish Rwanda's international responsibility under international law. The ICJ's announcement confirms the filing of the case but does not represent a ruling on its merits.
