BREAKING: AFCON EXPANDS TO 28 TEAMS FROM 2027!

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has officially confirmed that the Africa Cup of Nations will expand from 24 to 28 teams starting with the 2027 edition.

The historic tournament will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda (PAMOJA 2027) and will run from 19 June to 17 July 2027.

New format details:

- 28 teams divided into 7 groups of 4

- Top 2 from each group + the 2 best third-placed teams advance to the Round of 16

This marks the first time East Africa will host the Africa Cup of Nations in nearly 50 years, and the biggest expansion of the competition since it grew from 16 to 24 teams in 2019.
