DPP Says Office Supporting Parliament Corruption Investigations, Urges Patience

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Lino Anguzu, has confirmed that his office is providing legal and technical support to ongoing investigations into corruption allegations involving Parliament, including matters connected to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.

Speaking on the developments, Anguzu said the DPP's office is working closely with investigators by offering guidance on evidence collection and legal procedures but stressed that the investigations remain active and that no conclusions should be reached before the process is completed.

He cautioned members of the public against speculating on the outcome of the investigations, noting that the role of prosecutors at this stage is to ensure that inquiries are conducted lawfully and that any eventual decisions are based on credible evidence.

His remarks come amid high-profile investigations into allegations of corruption, money laundering and illicit enrichment involving Among and other individuals linked to Parliament.

Last week, security agencies carried out coordinated searches at properties associated with Among in Nakasero, Kigo and Ntinda, as well as her office at Parliament. During the operations, investigators reportedly recovered and seized a range of assets believed to be relevant to the inquiry.

The items reportedly include motor vehicles, large sums of cash, expensive jewellery and electronic surveillance equipment. Authorities are examining whether the assets were lawfully acquired and whether they are linked to the allegations under investigation.

The probe has attracted significant public attention, with anti-corruption campaigners and civil society groups calling for a transparent investigation and accountability for any public officials found culpable.

Despite the growing scrutiny, Anguzu emphasized that the investigations are still ongoing and that decisions on possible charges will only be made after investigators complete their work and submit their findings for prosecutorial review.

The corruption probe is among the most consequential investigations involving senior public officials in recent years and is expected to test Uganda's commitment to fighting graft and strengthening accountability in public institutions.

Neither Among nor her legal team had publicly responded to Anguzu's latest comments at the time of publication. Authorities have also not announced any formal charges arising from the investigations.
