Juba Could Get Karuma Power by Late 2026

South Sudan is on track to start importing electricity from Uganda’s Karuma Hydroelectric Power Station through Nimule to Juba by the end of 2026 or early 2027, according to Energy Minister Agok Makur.

A new substation at Nesitu, Central Equatoria, has been built to manage and distribute the incoming power to different states.

The minister says the Fulla Dam remains the government’s long-term priority for South Sudan’s own electricity generation.

> “The electricity is being transmitted from Karuma, passing through Nimule to Juba. We have also constructed a substation in Nesitu, Central Equatoria State, which will manage all the power coming from Karuma.”

South Sudan currently has an estimated 7% national-grid electricity access.
