Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe said #Rwanda’s diplomatic engagements in 2026 are focused on rebuilding strategic partnerships, strengthening regional integration, and advancing an interest-driven foreign policy.

 

Speaking on The New Times’ The Context podcast, Nduhungirehe said #Rwanda’s diplomacy aims to create tangible benefits for citizens through trade, investment, mobility, and regional stability.

 

He said #Rwanda and South Africa are rebuilding relations, with the two countries working to restore visa issuance for ordinary Rwandan passport holders and strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, tourism and regional integration.

 

Tanzania remains a strategic partner, particularly for securing #Rwanda’s supply chains, with about 80% of Rwanda’s maritime cargo passing through the Port of Dar es Salaam.

 

Nduhungirehe said #Rwanda is also pushing for stronger East African integration by reducing barriers to trade and improving the movement of people and businesses.

 

On Burundi, Nduhungirehe said Kigali remains concerned about Bujumbura’s involvement in eastern DR Congo, arguing that its actions have complicated efforts to resolve the conflict.
