DR Congo Introduces 10% Local Ownership Rule for Mining Companies
The Democratic Republic of Congo has introduced a new law requiring mining companies operating in the country to transfer 10% of their ownership to Congolese citizens. Under the policy, half of that stake—5%—must be allocated to company employees, giving local workers a greater share in the country’s mineral wealth. The government says the measure is aimed at ensuring Congolese citizens benefit more directly from the mining sector, while companies that fail to comply could face regulatory sanctions.
