🇷🇼 KIGALI — Rwanda has temporarily suspended the importation and ordered the recall of 11 alcoholic beverage brands from Uganda, alongside dozens of other products from Burundi, India, Kenya, Tanzania and Poland.

 

The directive was issued by the Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (Rwanda FDA) on August 5, 2026, citing public health concerns.

🚨 RWANDA FDA ORDERS IMMEDIATE ACTION

 

👉 Importers have been directed to recall the affected products.

 

👉 Distributors and retailers have been ordered to stop selling and distributing them.

 

👉 Consumers have been advised to stop consuming the listed products.

 

👉 Advertisements and promotional materials for the affected beverages must also be removed.

 

⚠️ IMPORTANT: The directive does NOT amount to a blanket ban on all Ugandan alcoholic beverages in Rwanda. It specifically concerns the brands listed in Annex I of the Rwanda FDA notice.

 

🇺🇬🇷🇼 The move comes amid Rwanda's wider crackdown on illicit and potentially unsafe alcoholic products and could have significant implications for Ugandan beverage manufacturers and Uganda-Rwanda trade.
