South African politician and the president of EFF Hon Julius Malema has stated that Ghana’s decision to evacuate its citizens from South Africa following reports of xenophobic tensions had a wrong timing.
He said the timing of the evacuation could send the wrong message and worsen existing divisions.
According to him, the move was not needed at that moment and may influence how people view relations between both countries.
“The Ghana response was not necessary, and it now creates a perception that we are all like that,” he told Asante Times in a telephoneinterview.
He added that Ghana’s approach did not encourage dialogue or diplomatic engagement, but instead risked escalating the situation.
Malema also noted that legally documented Ghanaian migrants who feel unsafe should be able to seek protection from local law enforcement without fear.
Hon Malema is one of South African politicians who are against attacks on fellow Africans, something he says is a colonial agenda to fight African Unity.
