Two former National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearers have officially defected to the National Resistance Movement (NRM), pledging their support to the ruling party and its candidates ahead of upcoming political activities.
Bern Kalisa Kunihira Ateenyi, a former NUP flag bearer, announced her decision to join NRM and declared full support for the NRM flag bearer, Hon. Basement Noeline. She was joined by Asingwire Brian, the former NUP candidate for Buhayaga East, who also crossed to the ruling party.
Eng Jonard Receiving the NUP Converts At His Residence in Hoima City
The two leaders were formally received into NRM by the National Vice Chairperson for the Western Region, Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, during a function held at his residence in Hoima City.
While welcoming the new members, Eng. Jonard described their decision as a clear vote of confidence in NRM’s leadership and development-focused agenda. He attributed the continued influx of leaders from other political parties to the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, noting that many Ugandans are drawn to the NRM’s clear vision and commitment to national development.
“These leaders have joined NRM because of the good leadership and the development ideology championed by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” Eng. Jonard said. He pledged to mentor and work closely with the new entrants to strengthen the party and contribute to national development.
In her remarks, Bern Kalisa Kunihira Ateenyi said her decision followed careful reflection on President Museveni’s message and ideology, which she described as transformative and people-centered.
Asingwire Brian, while addressing a meeting of NRM flag bearers in Hoima City, said he chose to leave NUP in order to embrace what he termed “politics of values rather than politics of vibe.” He added that NRM’s structured approach to leadership and governance inspired his move.
Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe concluded by calling upon NRM members to warmly welcome the new entrants and work together to strengthen the party and advance its goals both in the region and across the country.
