Mbarara District Parliamentary Petition: Witchcraft Rocks Loydah-Rwebyambu Case

In the premises of Mbarara High Court tension arose between a suspected traditional witch doctor and a section of individuals who had escorted Hon Loydah Muhimbura to Mbarara to attend the court hearing of election petition filed by Hon Margaret Ayebare Rwebyambu challenging the victory of Hon Kyarikunda Loydah Muhimbura, she attained in the January 2026 parliamentary elections.

 

Records shows that Hon Loydah Muhimbura, who contested on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, was declared winner after securing 31,364 votes, against the incumbent on Independent ticket, Hon Ayebare Margaret Rwebyambu 16,021, Julia Desire Barugahare (Independent) 607 and (Independent) Hope Maurishia 367 .

 

Later, Hon Ayebare Margaret Rwebyambu challenged the victory of Hon Loydah Muhimbura on the grounds of the validity of Muhimbura’s academic qualifications, saying that Hon Kyarikunda Loydah Muhimbura had no required academic documents one requires to be nominated and contest on the position of Mpship.

 

The petition hearing was scheduled to begin on Monday 14th September 2026 at Mbarara High Court . Case hearing suffered a delay after lawyer Caleb Alaka, representing Hon Kyarikunda Loydah Muhimbura, raised a preliminary objection over some of the affidavits filed by the petitioner.

 

Alaka also questioned the admissibility of supplementary affidavits submitted by a third party in July 2026. However, Justice Tom Chemutai ruled that the disputed affidavits did not affect the substance of the main petition and advised the parties to proceed with examination and cross-examination of witnesses.

 

Knowing that Hon Kyarikunda Loydah Muhimbura was sick, to the extent of walking with the help of walking sticks, opponents took advantage of her sickness and make her more disorganized in the due course of petition hearing. Honestly speaking, Hon Kyarikunda Loydah Muhimbura looked to ill physically but mentally sharp. Even at the time of facing Counsel Yusufu Mutebule representing the petitioner for cross-examination, Coleb Alak requested Justice Tom Chemutai to allow her to undergo cross-examination while sitting. 

 

Like the Bible verse in the book of Yobu (Runyankore version) Yobu 1:6 “Eizooba rimwe abaana ba Ruhanga bakaija kwemurika ahari MUKAMA, na Sitaane yaabaijamu”., Hon Loydah’s camp shortly froze after one of their camp member alerting them that he has come a cross a traditional witch doctor who operates around Bwizibwera town. Hon Loydah’s camp was shocked to see a traditional witch doctor who never supported their candidate moving around the court premises holding items suspected to be juju( amarogo).

When the witch doctor was approached and asked what she was doing or what she had come to do at court, she said that she had come like any other concerned citizen from mbarara district to observe court proceedings on the election petition filed by the former woman mp. Since the witch doctor was staunch supporter of the former Mp, what followed was exchange of bitter words from the traditional witch doctor with a section of Hon Loydah’s camp, who insisted that she came to court to disorganize their candidate and add on her illness. Previously, romours have been moving around mbarara district that Hon Loydah Muhimbura was bewitched, so that she can fail to represent mbarara district in parliament diligently and that it could be the reason why she facing strange illness.

 

At some point Hon Loydah would be seen walking with assistance and support of her family members holding her. A tall black man know as Gen. Sansa from mbarara city would be seen helping her to walk down stairs and up stairs of the court building. Future more, another tall- small man with a mask on his face would be seen holding her pillow case to support her back whenever she takes a sit. 

However, Hon Loydah being a smart cadre in areas of spiritual matters, her neck was entangled with a cherished catholic rosary purposely to obstruct all satanic powers staged against her. Even during petition hearing, Hon Loydah would be seen holding her rosary praying to Mother Mary, who is a central figure in catholic church on matters of spiritual believers.

 

By God’s grace, Hon Kyarikunda Loydah Muhimbura managed to finish cross-examination, despite of her illness. Justice Tom Chemutai set 26th Oct 2026 as the day for judgement reading.
