Police officers in Mbarara have been urged to uphold integrity and professionalism in their service to the public as they carry out their duties.
The call was made by National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman Hon Prosper Tuhaise during the closing ceremony of the Mbarara District Police Commander (DPC) football tournament, an event that attracted police officers, community leaders and residents from across the district.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tuhaise applauded the police for their commitment to maintaining peace and security, emphasizing that their role in society goes beyond law enforcement to building trust with the communities they serve.
He urged the officers to remain disciplined and committed to ethical service.
“Serve Ugandans with integrity and dedication. The people look up to you for protection and justice,” Prosper told the officers during his remarks.
The tournament, which had been running for several weeks, brought together teams composed of police officers and local community participants in a bid to promote unity and strengthen cooperation between security agencies and the public.
At the end of the competition, the winning team was rewarded with bulls donated by Mr Prosper Tuhaise as a token of appreciation for their effort and teamwork throughout the tournament.
Organizers said the initiative was aimed at encouraging teamwork, discipline and physical fitness among officers while strengthening relations between police and communities.
Residents who attended the event praised the initiative, noting that sports activities help bridge the gap between security agencies and the public.
Police officials also welcomed the support, saying such community engagements play an important role in promoting trust and cooperation in maintaining security.
